Don’t Waste Your Money

I received a Breadman Ultimate Plus as a Christmas gift in December 2009. Within 3 weeks, I was having problems with the paddle detatching during kneading. This leaves axle grease in your loaf, which you usually do not learn until the bread is finished baking. The machine is averaging ruining every third loaf at this point and I am trying to return it and receive a refund. Save your money and buy a better machine or just learn to make bread by hand. When it works, the machine makes tasty bread. But after having problems and reading 7 y.o. reviews where the same problem existed, it seems the manufacturer doesn’t care to right long-standing issues with this product.
Very Excellent

Too many glitches
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
My kids gave this bread maker to me as a birthday gift and I made my first loaf of bread today. Not impressed. The machine, besides being very noisy to start with, made a horrible noise several times throughout the process. The bread came out incredibly lopsided and with the kneading paddle completely embedded in the loaf. I couldn’t even see it! I had to cut an enormous hole out of the bread to get the paddle out. Not attractive.
The bread itself had no flavor whatsoever, and I followed the recipe for white bread exactly. It didn’t call for salt, which I thought was odd, but I followed the recipe and wished I’d tweaked it before I turned the machine on. It certainly could have used a small something.
The bread pan is extremely hard to remove and it isn’t too simple to place in the machine, either.
I thought I might try another loaf, but after reading other reviews here where they say the paddle was stuck in the loaf, it’s going back to the store. I’m not about to fish a metal paddle out my bread every time I bake a loaf.
Kids, this is why you don’t buy your mom an appliance!

The machine does every thing I question it to do, and the bread tastes pretty excellent.
Fantastic bread machine

I got the machine as christmas present and I’m loving it. I’ve been making bread at least two times a week now. I don’t buy bread from the store anymore.
Carbs here I come!

While I have only had this machine for 5 days now. I have made so many things in it. I like this machine so much. I also am loving giving breads to friends and family. I have had no problems at all with this. I did read the manual completely and also read tips online. Educate yourself and you will make the best breads ever.
I have made, white bread, wheat bread, honey wheat bread, French Rolls, Soft pretzels, Rosemary bread, Jalapeno bread, cinnamon and raisin bread.
I set out to buy a Zojirushi with the two paddles but just could not bring myself to pay that much. But I did know I wanted a 2lb horizontal loaf that has many baking features. I am very pleased with my buy… I still miss the two paddles, but Im okay with it every time I pull a new loaf out of my bread machine.
Not the best breadmaker

I received this breadmaker as a gift after my beloved one finally played out. This one was a huge disappointment. The bread tastes amusing and the size and browness is inconsistent. I don’t recommend this product.
This machine has some specific design flaws
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
We read the reviews for this breadmaker and were a small apprehensive about buying it, but finished up deciding to take the chance, hoping that most of the people who had reviewed it simply hadn’t used the machine correctly. Unfortunately, the machine we received had some design flaws. Each time we used it, the pan would walk it’s way up and out of the clips that hold it in the bottom of the oven, especially during the knead cycles. Eventually, the pan would pop up and out completely, so the driver would not contact the paddle, and no more mixing or kneading would take place. If we noticed the problem, we would press the pan back into place, and it would mix/knead again for a small while. But, opening the lid releases a lot of heat, and whenever we did this, the resulting loaf would be about half size and very dense. I recommend buying a more expensive breadmaker. You get what you pay for.
It works.

Breadman has improved the non-stick lining in the pan. The add extras cycle works automatically if you’re adding less than 1/3 cup of nuts or raisins or whatever, but it also makes enough noise so that you can manually add larger quantities – as long as you remember to program it to add extras before you start the machine. Motor strength seems adequate so far. My only real criticism is with the name – if this is the Ultimate, how can there be a PLUS? Is this a redundancy or an oxymoron? Anyway, it seems like a reasonable value.

Fantastic Bread Machine
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My friend bought me this bread machine over a year ago for my birthday. I make a loaf every week or two and have never had any problems. In fact, I like it so much I am buying one for my parents for the holidays. I was quite surprised by the mixed reviews! While I have never used some of the features on it, I am thrilled to have the options available to me. I really like that the loaves bake horizontally. Hopefully people who buy this bread machine will have the same fantastic experiences that I continue to have.
completely disappointing

i had a breadman bread machine several years ago which was hurt in a go. i chose to get a new one and selected this model. the unit never cooked a loaf properly. i tried several recipes and variations to make sure it wasn’t an issue with the recipe itself. no luck. it would cook the top and bottom of the loaf but the center would be raw. i finished up having to send it back and replaced it with a different model. same thing happened. spend the extra $ and get a zojirushi.
Flimsy flanges allow pan to jump “off the track”
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this model for friends, and showed them how to use it. Halfway through the mixing cycle it started making loud noises; I looked inside and it looked OK, but when the bread was done it became obvious that the inner pan had “jumped” out of position with the gear, and was lying about 40 degrees askew. We set up another loaf, and they report the same thing happened. I noticed that all that holds the pan in place is two straight flanges of metal that go over two small flanges on the pan. When I got home I looked at our TR875 model and noticed that it has much more robust, curved flanges with openings inside for the bread pan components. What a penny-wise and pound-foolish design flaw! I have now ordered the TR875 model for our friends and will return the TR2500BC.
“Thanks Honey, but I’ll wash the pan.”

Just got this thing and I am in like already. Works fantastic right out of the box. Making my third loaf of bread with it (
But be warned, and I didn’t catch this small nugget of information until it was already on the FedEx truck…
The pans for this machine APPEAR to be irreplaceable. APPEAR to be. I have not found anything on the net, so far (12/13/09), other than frustrated people hunting for a pan they cannot find.
“Do not immerse in water.”
The above phrase is used in the manual in regards to the pan. That sounds pretty ominous, does it not? So I do find myself slightly apprehensive at this point.Perhaps Breadman will read one of the many emails i intend to send them and provide something as obvious as a replacement part for what appears to be an accident waiting to happen.
Enough about that.
My first loaf of bread turned out…well…lets just say that it is now sitting on the forest floor not far from my house where woodland creatures can delight in it. That is because I place one too many cups of flour in the mix. Hilarity ensued.
My second loaf ( with right measurements ) turned out GORGEOUS! 1.5 pounds of wonderful, fresh, warm, sensual euphoria. <3
My third is in right now. And it smells sooooooo excellent.
The machine is a small noisy. The “extras” dispenser nearly gave us heart attacks. But it works really well. Does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Looks pretty sharp on the counter, as well. Cleans up simple (mind the pan). Really a nice machine for a really nice price.
Recommended with caution

I received this as a gift over two years ago. The first one stopped working after less than a month so I was able to take it back to Target and get a new one. Now the second one which we have had for two years is malfunctioning. The issue is likely with the control panel as sometimes there is no LCD though the light turns on when it’s plugged in. When it does work and I’m able to program it the loaves come out gummy in the middle. It appears that they are not rising long enough as well. The last one (whole wheat cycle) came out as a baked dough ball.
Before this, it worked fantastic. The only complaints I have had up til now is that at times not all of the flour is incorporated (and this may be a dough moisture issue as someone else mentioned), and the paddle is hard to get out of the loaf once baked (and I always spray the pan with oil before starting to help with both of these issues).
So: when it works, it works fantastic. Proceed with caution – this model seems to have some electronic issues.
I am currently torn between finding a used or refurbished one so that I can use the pan and paddle I have as back up or trying a new model.
Stay away from this one

I just got this today and was so excited to make a loaf of bread. While it was mixing it made a loud “catching” sound where something under the pan was hitting on something else…. am returning it straight away!!!

I do not need a machine that will make anything more than one or two loaves of wheat or white bread weekly. Unfortunatey, this Breadman was not that machine. Soon after buy, the bread pan started to jump out of its holding during the knead cycles (using the recipes and ingredients shown in the book that accompanied the machine). The whole machine would also jump across the counter and had to be constantly watched to prevent it from falling. The paddle would also work its way off the holder and embed itself in the dough. After pausing the machine, fishing out the paddle, replacing it, and restarting the machine 5 times for a single loaf of bread, I gave up and bought a machine from a different manufacturer, and it has worked fine.
Machine Container to Frame has a Major Design Defect
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought a Breadman TR2500BC about 1.5 months ago. I had to send the unit back because the container during the kneeding process would 100% of the time pop out of containment and wedge the kneeding paddles and electric motor inside the machine. This is a possible fire hazord. I sent the new machine back and ordered another TR2500BC hoping that this defect was a a fluke. No way….this is a design flaw because my second machine which arrived had the same problem of the container popping out again 100% of the time durring the kneeding process. I find it hard to believe that all reviews from those that really used the machine and sent in a reviews…… havent’ mention this design flaw. Although the machine will make fantastic bread, if you stand over the container holding down so it pop out of its brackets and jam up, this is the worst machine that I ever have come to know. I would never leave the breadmachine to run without me being in the kitchen to make certain the container doesn’t pops out of the containment brackets and thereby wedging/jamming up the motor and catching fire. I sending back my second new machine this week. The defect shows up while using white/med/1# cycle 100% of the time. Suggest that you don’t buy or trust this machine…danger…..Breadman TR2500BC Ultimate Plus 2-Pound Stainless-Steel Convection Breadmaker

do not rely on amazon.com to have or to sell the replacement blade for this machine.
You will go thru a lot of frustration with amazon.com.
No replacement PANS!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
You buy this thing, the pans come loose. So you crimp the crappy ‘pan latch’ and if you don’t break if off and ruin the machine, then either the electronics fail OR you get another year… then the paddle comes off. Don’t buy the paddle… that’s NOT the problem. So, now you look everywhere for a replacement PAN. Can you guess? Salton doesn’t MAKE them. Terrible company: no product support!
Do Not Buy
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I loved my bread machine at first. Then after about 6 months the pan started jumping out – which of course lead to unkneaded dough and an unusable loaf of bread. I called the company and they sent me another machine after cutting the power cord off my machine and sending it in. The same thing happened with the second machine – except this time it happened straight away. I sent the machine back to the company for them to evaluate the machine. After about 3 months and weekly phone calls I finally got the bread machine back. The company stated “There is nothing incorrect with the machine”. Just went to get a loaf out of the machine. The pan had jumped out again. Another loaf of unusable bread. It works at times, but very unreliable. Unless you have the time to stand there and hold the pan down I suggest you buy a different bread machine. Yes, I did what the company suggested. Pull the side tabs out a small. Use more water in the receipe.
Excellent bread, some features questionable
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this machine nearly a year, replacing a Regal breadmachine that I’ve had for 10 years that still worked and gave to my daughter who still uses it. Regal no longer makes this and I would have bought another if they did. Breadman makes a wonderful loaf but the dispenser isn’t reliable, raisins swell and if you’re going to use this feature do not use as much as your recipe questions. The dispenser will not open if it is too full. There was some problem in removing the pan from the machine, after adjusting the sides where it’s held in there was no problem.
What my main concern is, is the paddle. It stays in the bread about 95% of the time, which leads to the question, why is this coated with Teflon? It doesn’t work with this. If anyone else has noticed, the Teflon blisters and flakes off into the bread. I don’t like the thought of eating Teflon. This problem occurred with my Regal’s paddle too and I’m supposing that it may be right with all that use a Teflon coated paddle. So,why is it coated? Why risk the possible negative effects of using this product on the consumer? The pan is a different tale, the coating does not flake off. One can scratch it if not careful, but at least it doesn’t come off into the bread as it’s baking. Using Teflon on the paddle really must be addressed to the makers of bread machines. It doesn’t work and it comes off into the bread, not a excellent thing. So other than eating Teflon, the paddle hardly ever staying in the pan when removing the bread and one having to tear up the bottom center of the baked loaf removing it, and the questionable action of the dispenser, it bakes the bread fantastic.
lovely bread, but machine could be better designed

I’ve had this machine for about a year now, and have used it for nearly all of our bread during that time. It’s still turning out very tasty loaves, but:
1) The first unit I bought had to be returned due to defects (couldn’t enter manual programs, and the fruit & nut dispenser didn’t open at all).
2) The fruit & nut dispenser is pretty much useless. On my second machine, it does open, but after unlatching relies on gravity for the dumping action. Even with something relatively heavy in it such as raisins, gravity is insufficient to have it open wide enough to effectively dump the ingredient into the bread. Result: cooked raisins still in the dispenser. And forget about trying to use it for herbs – way, way too light.
3) The mechanism of attaching the pan into the machine isn’t fantastic quality and can warp with time and use. It well worked for a while but now requires a lot of fussing, particularly to get the pan out afterwards. Not impossible, but pretty annoying.
4) As others have mentioned, Breadman is no longer manufacturing replacement pans/paddles. If yours get too scratched or dinged, it’s eBay or nuthin’.
On the upside, the bread is still very tasty and well-formed. I like being able to program in custom programs. The recipe book that comes with the machine has some absolutely fabulous breads. So… I’m not dumping mine until it really breaks, but I’d probably try something else next time.
Fantastic breadmaker, TERRIBLE company no parts
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Dont waste your money on this bread machine. If you need a part they dont make them anymore. my breadpan bearing froze up, im guessing it got wet and rusted up. so i figure ill just order a new one. NOPE! they dont make parts for it anymore, so ill just have to buy a new one. You wont find me buying any breadman, or applica product ever again!

versatile because you can program your own programs. Gluten free bread cycle is not compatible with gluten free bread mixes. Perhaps it works with the Breadman recipes – have not tried. For a regular gluten free bread mixes just alter the existing whole wheat program by reducing PUNCH and Shape to 0 minutes and it works miracles.
It could use a bit of the re-engineering of the seed dispenser. As many other products this one was designed by someone who is not using the machine himself.
Pathetic
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Sometimes this machine will make a excellent loaf of bread, but sometimes it fails utterly. You have to keep a close eye on it as it bakes, or it comes out a complete disaster. Often the paddle will just spin in circles, making a hollow cavity in the loaf without kneading properly. I have to pull it out and knead by hand, then stick it back it. What’s the point of a breadmaker, if you have to knead by hand? That’s half the work! And it also means you can’t trust it to run on a timer, so that’s the second excellent reason to own the machine out the window. It don’t reckon the inside gets warm enough, either, because the yeast does not rise as much as it should.
Breadman TR2499BC bread maker is fantastic!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Very efficient and have had no disasters, have made mixes and recipes from owner’s manual. All results were excellent! One thing to be aware of, with oblong shaped loaf, while kneading, the dough moves from one corner of pan on to the next. Depending on where it ends when it is time to rise, the loaf could be lopsided, so if you really are concerned about the final shape of your bread you should check the position/shape before it starts the final rise time just before the bake cycle. Have not had any problems with the pan, getting it in the right position to lock it down for kneading, etc. All systems are go! This is my 2nd maker and not any noisier that my 1st 15 year ancient one, which I still use at our second home. I am very pleased and would recommend this item to my friends.
ultimate bread maker
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Had a Breadman bread maker for 5 years and when I needed to replace it I wanted another Breadman and this one was perfect. I did not follow the recipes in the new book, I just used the ones that worked in the previous machine and the loaves come out perfect. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who wants brilliant homemade bread.
Worthy Successor to the Breadman Pro
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After four fantastic years, my Breadman Pro had to be replaced. The seal at the bottom of the pan around the paddle gave out and the pan needed replacing. Unfortunately the Breadman company no longer makes replacements for it. The Breadman TR2500BC seemed to be a very similar to product. Sure enough it is based on the same model. It has met or exceeded all of my expectations. I make approximately 2 loaves of wheat bread per week, pizza dough about once or twice per month, jam in the fall, and various other recipes on occassion. For a home product this is a lot of wear and tear, but the last one made it for four years and this one seems just as durable. I am very pleased that I was able to get a product that used similar (in many cases identical) recipes to what my family became accustomed to.
